This scene was the limit for me - once they hit the subway station I had to leave and compose myself for a few good minutes outside. Was fine during the party and post-party scene but this running part, ugh.

Umm, I haven't seen the movie, and that clip doesn't make me want to see the movie, it's annoying.

Shrug, sorry, I still love Blair Witch best, because I can totally identify with being camping in the woods and getting freaked out by all the sounds I hear.

Ok, I totally blame that on being no more than 10 years old and watching too much Col. Austin vs Sasquatch.

I loved the camerawork. Yes the people being documented were annoying and I couldn't wait for some smashing, but I thought there were some very clever bits of film-making here. I can't tell you which scenes, though, because I don't want to be spoiler-y.

I think the fact that soldiers were incapable of doing any damage, even with that constant barrage of fire power, not to mention the dozens of giant bombs dropped on the monster, was pretty stupid. One of the reasons I wanted to see this movie was because of seeing clips of the army counter attack ahead of time. The way that human firepoewr is never capable of doing any damage in monster invasion/alien movies is stupid. No thing on earth should be able to withstand such bombing attacks.

@Plague: Wrong on all my points? Sure 'tedious' and the Space Mountain metaphor are on the subjective side, but 'overhyped' is inarguable.

And the meat of my gripe is that the first-person viewpoint is tiresome, and a poor choice to structure an entire film around. It suffered from the same failings that "The Blair Witch Project" suffered from - that the gimmick overshadowed the story.

Cloverfield comes off worse, because unlike Blair Witch, the story in the background looks far more exciting than what's going on in front of the cameras.

Plus, I know we're in suspension-of-disbelief land, but the sponge-head with the camera kept babbling about how he was going to "document" what was going on so people could see... And most of what he documented was a Dawson's Creek reject pouting about being a douchebag. Even my mother would have the presence of mind to point the camera at the horrible, horrible monster in the middle of a firefight, and not her idiot friends crouching in a stairwell across the street.

its not a fucking TURTLE OMG, if you look closer, its a little child creature, and it looks like sin from final fantasy, and if you seen the moive, this creature does not look like the one at the ending,the one at the ending might be the pissed off mother.....think about it, then reply to me.o and Nemo fairbrother, if they make a cloverfield 2, it will have to be in the same place, but someone elses point of veiw, i mean come on people were saying it was a huge turtle with 8 arms tell them there wrong and go see the moive, and i agree with nemo of the monster looking like the one from "the host"

But really, JJ abrams said he saw the creature at a toy store in japan, and i go to japan alot, and there was no creature that look like that one in a toy store, that sentence may be false.

The screaming isn't so bad when you see it in the cinema - well it didn't annoy me.

I guess Cloverfield will divide people. Its shaky cam and constant frenetic action (and screaming) could potentially lose fans, however it worked for me.

The monster is great and reminiscent of 'The Host'. A common complaint is that by the end of the movie we've seen too much of the monster which I think is true.

I prefer not having an explanation for the monster or where it comes from, unfortunately when they make Cloverfield II I'm sure they will try to reveal far too much about its origins.

Isaac Asimov wrote an article for Boy's Life back in the seventies that explained why you couldn't have something like a giant lobster on account of the square-cube law and other reasons; the only land animal that could be the size of a big dinosaur would have to be shaped like a dinosaur.

JJ wanted to make an original monster. it is original...but its weird. Badastronomy has a good review why that giant should not exist at all...body mass versus thin legs, etc. I think the parasites are much more scarier than the monster itself. btw...was there only one monster or many?

Overhyped and tedious... A couple of minutes showing us the human perspective of the monster would have made the point, and then film could have gone on to be, y'know, entertaining.

In my review, I likened the bulk of the film to watching a guy videotaping Space Mountain while tying his shoes. There's all kinds of cool stuff going on that you really want to see, but you're stuck watching this idiot fixate on his shoes.

Some of us are just prone to motion sickness. It sucks. I couldn't even play Castle Wolfenstein 3D without getting sick. The last time I tried to play ATV Off-Road Fury with my son, I got sick. 25-50mg of meclizine helps, though. :-)

Lol Jk, I saw the film it was very good in that it was the first monster film I saw that was scary, the use of camera was effective in showing us how it would look like from a more human perspective. I loved the fim. Though the monster is shite. They could have done better.
