While I loved just about every second of it (the writing, the acting (especially Terry O'Quinn's), and the cinematography), the whole time I was saying to myself, "This would truly piss me off if I was trying to watch it on a week-to-week basis, with gaps of several months! If it was airing in the afternoons on TNT... that might be do-able."

Maybe if they had an additional season or something, but otherwise...I felt it was Buffy in space.

The thing is, BSG is a good show, sometimes even a great show, but the same people who froth at the mouth about "Lost" being vague seem to shut down all their critical faculties while BSG goes on for two years of bad pseudo-dream sequences of Cylons saying sort-of-spiritual things and claiming to have a plan that, when looked at logically, is either no plan or the stupidest plan ever devised. A lot of good character storylines get dropped for no reason, a lot of basic scifi knowledge gets ignored and some of the plot developments (like Baltar's emergence as a religious figure) make no sense whatsoever. This doesn't bother me that much -- if you can pull it off with style, I say go for it, and BSG does -- but I'm always agog when fanboys lather over this one and claim it's perfect.

Heroes is a bit overrated too, though, actually, so maybe I'll vote for it. I enjoyed the first season and haven't really seen any of the second season. But people treated it like it was revolutionary, and it wasn't really.

The worst thing about Lost is the lack of answers, but it still feels to me like they are building towards a predetermined conclusion as opposed to just treading water to draw it out as long as possible. So I'm not willing to say whether I thought it was overrated until it's done, I guess, or until they replace Jack with Robert Patrick.

BSG is dreadful because of the endless angst, the pacing slower than Blake's 7, and the near certainty that the 'main' plot is never, ever, going to be resolved in any sensible way.

Heroes just makes all the standard comic book errors that were old in 1950.. it's like the creators never read a comic book, and didn't know what not to do.

Seriously, the quality of science fiction programming tends to mirror the general trend: remakes and formulas. And when it comes to remakes, the trend seems to be make them similar but totally different than the original and bring back people from the original to give the new show some legitimacy.

Galactica was going fine until the middle of the second season. Once the Cain storyline had run its course, the scripts started getting very, very cluehammer dumb. They haven't recovered.

Stargate takes the cake for most useless sf franchise ever. Derivative Trek plots, recycled for military fetishists. The hands-down blandest series regulars I've ever seen on any series. Makes me wish "Legend" had lasted longer, just for Richard Dean Anderson's sake.

Still Lost is the only series that I can honestly say I stopped watching due to lack of enjoyment. Usually I tend to dislike a series initially and then find it grows better with seasonal age (true for me with Star Trek, Stargate(s), Farscape, Babylon 5, and Torchwood).

I have not gotten around to the Bionic Woman or the Terminator TV series as yet, so I cannot effectively weigh in on them.

I loved the new Battlestar, but the long delays between seasons have me losing interest.

Most people who dislike Stargate, hate that it went on for 10 seasons (still ongoing for Atlantis) and think it's taking up or wasting valuable sci-fi airtime - for whatever shows they think is more deserving.

My friend got us all hooked on it back at the beginning of fall semester and it is included in our movie nights (and days when we don't have work to do, or we're all REALLY procrastinating), it is awesome. I haven't seen enough of SG-1 to know whether or not it is overrated, but my friends really like it, and I love Stargate Atlantis, we watch it all together as a tradition (no matter what else we have to do - club activities, work, class related stuff, etc, etc, etc).
Lost is just awful. I tried to watch it. Followed it for about half a season; then I missed maybe 2 episodes because I was busy with school and I haven't been able to follow it since (despite my sister not giving me any choice in watching it or not).

For every "Countrycide" or "Small Worlds" there are 2 or 3 "Cyberwoman" type episodes...

There's little to no tension or suspense. The thing is just poorly shot & edited.

For the UK's "X-Files" I think it is far from the mark. I also know that I am alone in this opinion as folks seem to LOVE Torchwood, even non-dorks.

And I don't get it. SORRY, I wanted to LOVE this show, as I love Jack... but Jack needs a new team.

There's a movie reviewer here in Austin that admits in reviews that his favorite movie ever is Kurosawa's Ran, then goes and reviews Charlie's Angels, finding himself surprised he does not like it. It's maddening.

Some, like the Star Trek franchise, just did what they did for a particular audience, without trying for broader appeal, or non-sci-fi critical acclaim. The Stargate franchise does a similar thing, and appeals to it's fan base, with the elements of humour and military action to broaden it a little (SG1 managed to last longer than any other sci-fi on TV for that reason, I think). The shows on the list are the sort that tried to get beyond sci-fi audiences to some degree. I'm sure a lot of "Lost" fans don't even think of it as "Sci-Fi" in the first place.

But my point still stands. If we're going to include shows from 2002 as "recent" (Firefly), we should include more on polls. I love Farscape, but others find it overrated. That's another candidate for this poll. Stargate as well as I said. I just feel the polls anymore are the same 5 options. If we're in a golden age of scifi, you'd think there'd be more options to be overrated.

But if it's not actually plotted out, and this is just another X-files all over again, there's going to be some pretty damn pissed people out there.
I personally like Lost alot, but it's definitely a series for those with patience. And don't even try starting on the series from anywhere except episode 1, you'll almost never understand it.
