i'm a firm believer in falsifying evidence. when i take pics of my daughter, i edit out the crayon marks she leaves on the walls, or the lint i didn't vacuum out of the carpet. those few hundred pictures will eventually be the basis of her memory of a time she can't really remember on her own. i'll be damned if i want her to think her infancy was grimy and smudged.

...and if she has problems reconciling those pretty pictures with her actual memories, then well, she can pay her own therapy bills. i'm doing my part.

Greg Bear Therapies you well. Did anyone find that idea in Queen of Angels interesting enough to comment on? To some extent we may be very close to being able to single out individual neurons that fire when a specific bad memory is triggered. Zap it away...one day. For the most part I think we are better off with most of our damage, as it makes for some pretty intense artistic expression--complexity. I might be nice if we could figure out who's going to go mad and go shoot up a bunch of kids before it happens. This country is in need of a lot of therapy.

I always thought that the hypnosis approach (with adoption) was a much more sensible approach to infertility than spending 5 figures.
