Anyway...getting the oil needle out of our vein is almost do-able now. It would get possible a hell of a lot faster if even a fraction of the subsidies paid out to the international oil companies were applied to developing new technology.

Decentralized generation looks like a decent model. Alcohol looks possible, but needs significant development or it's never going to be Earth-friendly. Tidal, geo-thermal and wind are all looking good, but need some heavy infusions of cash to (ahem) get off the ground. Solar is waiting for more efficient, more eco-friendly panels.

All of the above could really benefit from higher-density storage methods than we have right now. The real point is that we're only one or two solid technological advances away from major change.

The biggest obstacle, and the hardest to tackle, has nothing to do with tech. The corporations that have the strongest vested interest in business as usual buy and sell governments like penny candy. Until we get control of our countries back, we're screwed.

More later, maybe...I'm off to a symposium on economical solar power strategies for the average home. Why anybody would schedule such a thing for a Saturday morning in February utterly eludes me, but there it is.

anyway, i think theres a small (but real) possibility of some sort of perfect technological/socialist world in the future. it would be about 100 years from now, and in terms of abilities, everyone would be the same. by todays standard, they will be unbelievably fast, strong, intelligent, everything you could ever want, they will have. they will focus on science, and not religion. they will also be smart enough to be able to put any differences aside and work together.

anyway...those are my 2 cents. even if/when we get to the point of genetic perfection (that sounded alot less nazi-ish in my head), we would need to have a government sponsored program in order to make it really wide spread. its going to be expensive, but the more people who are modified, the better our civilization has.

I'm a little more realistic than most, I'm pretty sure that attaching a hard-drive to our brain won't lead to the cure for death and make the universe filled with gumdrops and candy, or fix simple human ignorance. Just because you can think faster doesn't mean you will automatically achieve the right answer for everything, especially complex problems such as international politics. Trans-humans are just as vulnerable to nuclear explosions as regular ones.
