He removed them this summer then had them reattached for the Season 5 premiere (apparently this procedure took 16 hours? To paraphrase Elayne Boosler, I don't even want to do anything that feels good for 16 hours). And, judging by the spoilers above, will lose them for good shortly thereafter. Even if I liked the dreads, I couldn't begrudge him cutting them off in order to avoid spinal strain.

And yes, I'm chagrined that I even know all of this.
