The Black Freighter!]]> @DrWest: There definitely is every reason not to expect it in the movie: It ISN"T important to the story. You don't actually need it. All it is is a reflection of Adrian Veidt's journey from his decision to save the world, and his accomplishing of it. Its a great part of the original graphic novel, and adds depth to his character arc (and to the whole story too), but it isn't necessary. Book to movie adaptations are made of the 'necessary' parts of the original work. That's why I say people shouldn't expect it.
As far as 300 being good or not, I won't argue that because I thoroughly enjoyed it, and you obviously didn't, so we are just going to have the difference of opinion as far as its adaptation. I will say though that because he adapted 300 perfectly (in my humble opinion), I have faith that he will adapt Watchmen perfectly. The importance is not in the complexity of either property, nor the differences between them, but that Snyder made the effort to stay as close as possible to the original novel, and to make it good, which, IIRC, many of the higher-ups didn't want him to do. I don't KNOW if he will or not, and I won't say that "This move is going to suck" or "This movie is going to be awesome" but I have faith in the guy (i.e. give him the benefit of the doubt), and am excited to see what goes up on the screen at its premiere.

As a side-note I'm sure he is extremely aware of how much hate and anger he will face if he does this wrong (though, naturally, he will face some anyway). I mean, honestly, who in the comic book community hasn't read/heard of Watchmen?

And while it may be unrealistic to expect a big movie production company to allow the director to include what is, essentially, a whole other movie, the obvious solution to this problem is to NOT make a movie at all. Also, the graphic novel of 300 was good, yet the movie was garbage. So thus, I conclude that it was not adapted "perfectly." And even if you do think that it was somehow good, the point is 300 is a much, much different project than Watchmen. The 300 film was just a stupid action movie, and unfortunately for Mr. Snyder Watchmen has very little action, and is far from stupid.

The Black Freighter!]]> @DrWest: See, DrWest, I think it raises expectations because most people, correctly, knew that it wouldn't be in the movie in the first place, and so actually having them still film it, even if its only on the DVD, is pretty effing cool. Anyways, should be interesting to see, and I am looking forward to see this movie, both if it is good, cuz then I can enjoy it, or if it is bad, so that I can lambaste it and tell everyone who liked it to read the original graphic novel.
@aspiringexpatriate: I don't see why you can't. Think about this: 300 was a graphic novel, and zach snyder adapted it almost completely perfectly. Since he succeeded in doing that (though, I would guess adapting 300 is easier than Watchmen) so well, why not another graphic novel? Hanyways, we'll just have to wait and see!

TBF is about attempting to save people you love, but becoming so twisted that you lose your connection to the ones you are trying to save. Applies to all three characters, if you ask me.

I just can't imagine the mind behind 300 making watchmen the way it is in my head.
