Yeah, remember that sci-fi themed karaoke night I had planned for Wonder-Con? Didn't happen. HOWEVER, now that I have a new weekly karaoke gig in San Francisco, I will be hosting one eventually. And io9 will be the first to know.

Great list, everyone. Yes, most of these songs are not available. I have a pretty good bead on what songs are "officially" available (but I did just get "Autobahn" by Kraftwerk. All 10 minutes and in German, as well as "Flash Gordon" by Queen!). I now have a good start as to what to look for in the future.

rogerniner

Everybody knows the funk (a ball of teats from outer space) landed on Bootsy Collins' farmhouse. Then Bootsy made a funk milkshake, and became super funky. He shared it with George Clinton, and the rest of the all stars. Jeez. Now Old Gregg is the keeper of said funk, but he'll give it up if only you'll marry him. Mmmm, creamy Baily's.

qbrad

Try Killing Technology, Dimension Hatross or Nothingface on for size. Three Sci-Fi Metal Concept albums that were miles ahead of their time when released and are still amazing now.

I toured as Daft Punk's on-stage computer tech in 2006. (Besides having been a fan since the rave days.) I can tell you this: Thomas and Guimon are the biggest Kraftwerk fans in the world, and are the first to admit they've been greatly inspired by the German syntho-geniuses. I think what they've done in the last couple years of touring is inspired projects like Peter Jackson's remake of "King Kong" - now we have the technology to do it right. We can take what is essentially a few guys playing with synths and sequencers on stage and make a show out of it, and a mind-blowing show at that.

JoeyDK

@dOk: Yeah... any post about scifi music should include kraftwerk. C'mon... they sang about robots (or man-machines), computers, numbers etc...

Also Daft Punk (althought great!) were not the first to do the TRON live thing. It was Kraftwerk 7-8 years ago.
