While I like the idea of Topher I've yet to be able to point to an actor and say "Yes! That guy!". Maybe I'm just too close to the character. If that changes I'll be sure to shout it on the mountain but until then, I'm reserving judgement.

They could easily decide to go with a pretty boy OC type. Since the character is damn near comic relief, while the other characters handle most of the action, someone with good comic timing, and a general likability is what it needs.

I think this is one of the comic book series out there that is meant for some sort of serial live action treatment. A series of movies is good, though I still like the idea of it being an HBO series better. They can take more risks, and get more time to tell the story. And unlike most comics, there is a set beginning, middle, and end. Which I think really helps in pacing out the main story. I'm looking at your Lost, X-Files, etc.

That said, he may be perfect in the two-note role of Yorick. I'm sorry, but Y - The Last Man has a compelling idea but an unfortunately melodramatic execution. With as much potential as was there, Brian Vaughan wrote a pretty dull story. The main character simply has to be smirky on the one hand and bone stupid on the other which would seem to fit mssr. LaBeouf to a Y. The other characters seem to be there to satisfy young male readers love of lipstick lesbians. Three episodes or 12, I'll have to see who they get to write it before I fork over any cash.

When I first heard that Shia was planned for Yorick, I didn't even care because I was still crazy-style that they were going to make a movie of the comic book that I tried to force down everyone's throat. This post is trying to ruin my happiness by pointing out the banana and other faults.

I've read Y since the beginning and think he'd be able to handle the nerdy/funny thing pretty well. I don't really see Topher at all. He is not AX model attractive, nor does he have perfect diction or line delivery. He very much reminds me of Jeff Goldbloom. He is quirky, and interesting, and believable.

Topher, I just don't like him. No real reason, I just think he's a putz.

From the moment I heard about the possibility of a movie, I thought he should play Yorick- he's got the nerdy, annoying, big-mouth thing down to a science.
