I'm late to the comment party on this one, but I think that's a bummer. I thought the ending to the second movie was a bit of a mess, but the casting of Evans and Chiklis was pretty perfect. I never really empathized with Reed or Sue in the comics, so I guess they were cast well, too. WizarDru sums it up pretty well (except X-Men 3 did have Jamie Madrox...).

Plus, the world could always use more Dr. Doom.

Sorry, I'm going to have to be the guy who's actually disappointed at the news. Did FF & FF2 make some occasionally bad choices? Sure. But they were good popcorn flicks, suitable for an all ages audience and featured some of the aspects that made the FF so popular back in the 60s and into the 70s. Was it of the quality of Spiderman 2 or X-men 2? No. But was it an entertaining way to spend a couple of hours with my kids? Yes, yes it was. And if you asked me to choose between X-men 3 or FF 2, I'd choose the latter.

I could never get around to liking Reed Richards in the movies, and Jessica Alba annoyed me too. Johnny and the Thing were cool though, wouldn't mind seeing them again. Also, the FF movies seemed more based on the Ultimates version of FF than the original, hence Galactus the giant cloud.

Any movie series that makes Dr. Doom look really lame is a movie series I don't want to see.

Seriously, he's the only competent super villain in all of comics.

But I walked out of F42 feeling annoyed. The ending sequence where Mr. Fantastic gains all the four's powers IN COMPLETE OPPOSITION to the way the power swap worked the whole rest of the movie just frustrated me. Seriously, if the writers don't care about the plot, why should I?

Neither F4 movie was particularly good, but I actually thought that F4^2 was better than F4.

That is to say, I actually watched all of F4^2 at my house, whereas when F4 was played on an airplane flight I did my best impression of D.B. Cooper as fast as I could.
