They capture one, hollow out his head, install a control system and then use him to infiltrate the alien society with two pilots controlling their 'vehicle'.

It is totally worth five minutes of your time to go check out the video for the Black Crowes' "High Head Blues."

The Crowes are tiny aliens who invade earth by popping out people's eyeballs and installing control systems in their heads, which they then ride around in. Chris Robinson is the first victim. I think maybe five people ever saw this when it came out, but it's truly awesome.
