This guy needs a good lawyer. This sort of thing can happen to anybody who accidentally gets caught up in the legal gears. My advice is to try to avoid notice.

As for the GM food... C'mon, folks - all (at least, almost all) food is genetically modified. I really don't see a difference between doing it through genetic engineering, or the old-fashioned way with selective breeding.

Thomas Hayden Church isn't in Strange Culture, although it would be a significantly more surreal film if he was. You're talking about Thomas Jay Ryan, AKA Henry Fool:

The case does seem important. I'm less certain about the context of the case being heavily showcased, i.e. genetically modified foodstuffs. The answer given to that question inspires confidence it's merely a byline (only one word on the topic, "Yes.", and a change of subject to what seems like the real story) but a film like this trying to go in two directions could kill it.

Balius

I was an art undergrad at CMU, where Steve had done a lot of his pivotal work and had quite an impact on students and professors there, just after he left for buffalo, and during the course of the unfolding of this case. He gave a really inspiring lecture on his work during our big arts and culture festival my freshman year.

To hear about what was going on from my professors, his friends and colleagues, who had to deal both with harassment from government officials and the illegal detention of a close and respected friend was heartbreaking.

And yet, despite the tragic nature of the story and its enormous legal implications, it never seemed to hit the news or be broadcast beyond college campuses in Pittsburgh and Buffalo. I'm really really glad this film exists, and hope it will increase the visibility of Kurtz's case. This is something people really need to be angry about!

bakana
