Come to think of it, remaking 'The Quiet Earth' would be freaking ideal, too. Especially with the white, hairless dog thing that scared the willies out of me. It can ride on the shirttails of 'I am Legend' as a sole-survivor flick.

I always enjoyed horror movies where the characters were really sharp (ie Night of the living dead, dawn of the dead, or the Thing) but even the best laid plans start to fail. By the end of the book, I was actually glad to see characters start dying.

Triffids deserve a big time comeback. The '81 BBC miniseries was So Cugat (very good). There's some homegrown (haha) CGI triffid short on youtube but it just doesn't work. The triffids in that piece are swift-moving and too fly-trappy for my taste. Fast zombies--meh, fast triffids--never. To butcher Andrew Marvell:
"My vegetable fear should grow

You can run from a plant, but when a pack of Albanian dogs descends from the hills (which did happpen) and chickens are attacking kids (which did happen) and chimps are have learned to sharpen sticks into weapons (which has also happened) you're kinda fucked.
