Tom Baker will always be my favorite doctor, but all of the actors have brought their special magic.

Colin Baker ranks so lowly because, as a doctor, he wasn't very charismatic and as Slatz_Grobnik points out, he was downright mean to his companions. Poor writing was the culprit, of course, but Slyvester McCoy had poor writing on and off through his run, and he still managed to be charming.

I'd like to see Colin Baker's 'The Stranger' series, as I understand it was something of a redemption of sorts for Baker's work.

@moff: Some of the hate comes from his hate. Several Doctors have been irascible bordering on mean spirited, but there was typically a counterbalancing emotion. He's a Doctor with all the unpredictability of 10, all the snark of 1, but with a hostility to it.

The other thing is the degree to which Doctor Who has always been about the ensemble, more than the Doctor. Peri is near the bottom of the list in terms of likability. Her defining characteristics are tits and a sloppy American accent.

Now, that, in itself, might not be the end of everything, but the relationship between the two is never quite anything other than the Doctor being cruel to her. There are interesting undercurrents in the other Baker's Doctor, but those are just that: undercurrents, and not the basis of the relationship.

@dOk: PBS gave me my first Doctor too. I was young, and I think they played them out of order, so I didn't really get the show. I just knew I wanted to grow up and be abducted by a time lord.

@jermom: I hear ya! I liked Colin Baker (and even enjoyed Sylvester McCoy).

I hated Peter Davison's Doctor, actually. I find it somewhat ironic that his figure is holding a sonic screwdriver when his gets destroyed pretty early on.

Actually, Davison was my least-favorite of the Doctors. I liked McCoy and Colin Baker more than him, and they were WEIRD.

Yes, some of the characters make NO SENSE (the SV robots?) but I have to admit I CAN NOT wait for these... but then again I have the Tardis Playset, 18 figures, Stand alone Tardis and talking Dalek on my desk at work (shh, don't tell my wife she doesn't know I'm buying them).

Buying the whole set so I can have the giant Robot.

As for these? They're clearly the models (notice no points of articulation?) and the actual realeases will look a bit different. Tom's looks are totally consistent with his appearance (the head is the look from the opening credits) and details are tough to do on such these sorts of figures.

@jermom: Officially, Peter Davison was my first Doctor, but it was only a couple episodes later that he died, so I've always kind of loved Colin Baker -- an interesting take on the character during a tough time for the show. I don't get the hate either.

i watched a couple Colin Baker episodes recently, and i have a hard time understanding why people are so down on him. sure, his outfit is ludicrous, and he's a bit of a dick to peri sometimes.... but nothing made me think that he was completely horrible.

good god his costume is insane though. it kinda makes me feel bad for him.

Am I the only one that noticed how suddenly the doctor has a far more conventional sense of style than he used to? I mean, compare what grumpy and short-stack from the new series both choose to run around time and then look at these guys' duds.

Oh, and the Tom Baker figure has just the right amount of crazy going on, if you ask me.

I can report that teh internets are burning up with "CeleryGate" based on the fact that the Fifth Doctor (Peter Davison) figure lacks his trademark decorative vegetable. This is apparently because one of the executives at Character Options thinks it's stupid. And yet, they are still producing a 6th Doctor! Go figure.

For the record, I'll be buying every damn one of these, and the plans are to release every Doctor and, yes, multiple variants of Daleks and Cybermen. Me want.

Wow... great detail in those figures! However, I have to agree. As much as I identify Tom Baker's Doctor with the sci-fi influences of my youth... that "I'm on a pyschotic jelly baby trip!" style grin is spooky.
