Here's a simple explanation of how to build an EMP bomb. here

Now you don't have to worry about robots anymore!

BTW there are a load of ways you can make electronics resistant to EMPs. The M1 Abrams is built to withstand an EMP but don't tell that to the robots or they'll be impervious to our only defense.

Castle1914

@braak: Depends on what you mean by 'protecting and serving humanity.' If you mean 'not having them kill each other,' then yep, living in the matrix is probably better (although not quite, because you can still kill each other, and it will affect the living person). However, if it's 'keep them physically healthy and fit,' then they won't think of the matrix, because living in the matrix causes great atrophy of muscles and organs like your eyes. So, it all depends on how we define 'best serving and protecting humanity'

Bob_of_Mars

@russdanger: take an explosive device and wrap it in a load of copper wire.

Sound too simple? Nope the explosion will create an electrical field in the wire and the propagating waves are the EMP.

Okay it's slightly more complicated than that but not much.

Castle1914

Awesome. And thats probably one of the better ways to go about programming, instead of hard coding in every possible way to use stuff, just give it the properties and have it go at it.
They did the same thing with Stanley in the DARPA Grand Challenge '05, instead of having it decide what things to avoid, they had a person drive it and have the computers just pick up what the person was avoiding and such, went from something like 30% smart to 98% smart.

Log1c
