Comment on Start Bracing Yourself Now For Joss Whedon's Final X-Men Twist It's not a spaceship or a missile. Do any of you even read the comic book? We found out in the last Astonishing (when Kitty tried to phase in and disrupt the circuitry guiding the "missile") that it's a bullet. A big, solid piece of metal they're firing at the earth. Kitty's presumably still in there from having tried to disarm the thing (which ended up not having anything to disarm). If someone doesn't stop the bullet, there are going to be bigger problems than Kitty dying.

We've known this was going to be the outcome for a few months now. It's just annoying that Whedon brought Pride out of retirement just to kill her off, and this was not too long after having brought Colossus back to life. Some would say that this is star-crossed or Whedon's anti-romanticism (how many of his couples have happy endings?), but this is bumblefuck writing. She gets a hero's finale, sure, but why?
